A week after the Habesha Christmas, on January 19th Timket(Epiphany) is held on the streets of Addis and else where in the country. This great and colorful festival is a 3 day affair starting from the eve (the day the Tabot goes out ), to the next morning where Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River by John the Baptist is commemorated, till the day after (when the Tabot returns). Right at noon on the eve of Timket , the city completely shuts down and is crowded with a sea of people dressed in white and colorfully dressed Tabots every where. The scenery is remarkable; this is truly an enjoyable and beautiful holiday! Melkam Timket to all my Habeshas!! (:
